Other than having good eyes and hands, the set postion is most important component to catching. So, at my sessions we work a lot on getting the shape right (depending on what works for the individual) and our feet active and ready. However, I am always emphasizing the need to get set as quick as possible. This is why I am an advocate of getting the keeper out of shape first to get the practice of getting back in. It’s even possible to only focus on hand position while in the set position in ordet to practice for when a ball is coming at you and you have to adjust. Seeing is understanding. So, take a look at the following session to see some of this work in action.
